Alphonso Davies Pulled Over in Munich
The Canadian soccer captain, has been given a month-long driving ban following an incident that occurred last week according to local media on Sunday.
On Thursday, the 24-year-old fullback for Bayern Munich was stopped at around 5.45 am by police in Munich and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.6 grams per liter. This level is above Germany’s legal limit of 0.5 grams per liter but is below the 0.8 grams in weight where it becomes a criminal matter.
In so many words, a source had also confirmed that Davies was given a fine, received two demerit points, and was suspended from using his driver’s license for one month. Bild, a German tabloid, reported that Davies was driving a Lamborghini when the incident happened.
Davies, however, started for Bayern in their 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The German side’s coach, Vincent Kompany, acknowledged the incident before the match, that the club would therefore deal with the issue internally. When asked about Davies’ inclusion in the starting lineup, Kompany explained that he didn’t want to penalize the team by sidelining the player.
Davies, who has been seen as one of the best left-backs in the world, has played 56 matches for Canada, scoring 16 goals and 17 assists. He missed the recently held quarterfinal series of the CONCACAF Nations League vs Suriname, citing physical fatigue as a precautionary measure.
The Bayern defender is contracted until the end of the 2024-25 season and has been linked with most top clubs in Europe.
